Sun Kissed Bodies
Overview
The process of getting a custom airbrush tan can seem a little daunting at first, especially if you've never had any kind of spray tan in the past. I remember my first custom spray tan, I was a little nervous since I didn't have any idea what to expect. This will explain to you the general steps of a custom spray tan.

You should arrive to your appointment dressed in your "comfy" clothes, meaning sweats and a loose shirt. If you are female, you shouldn't be wearing a bra, either. For shoes, you should be wearing slippers or flip flops. It is your decision to tan in a bathing suit or nude, but if you do decide to wear a suit, make sure it is dark in color. Remember, most tanning specialists have seen it all! There is no reason to be self-conscious about your body in front of the woman, or man, who is tanning you. A lot of companies will also offer you disposable underwear if you prefer. I suggest having the tech come to you, since mobile services are becoming more common. This way you can simply wear a light robe to prevent any post tan smearing issues.

After discussing your tanning preferences and completing a custom color match based on your skin tone, the technician will have you stand on a towel or mat in a well-ventilated area. At this point, barrier cream will be applied with an airbrush to your hands, knees, feet, and elbows, as well as any other dry areas. Once this step is complete, the technician will most likely have you turn around to start spray tanning your back. This is probably the most uncomfortable part, because the solution is "a little chilly", and your back tends to be a very sensitive area! The technician will spray each area of your body in sections, and may apply a second coat as needed. You will be asked to move in various positions to make sure even coverage is obtained. Since most solutions have a bronzer, you will be able to see an "instant" tan right away. The technician may use a blow dryer to help dry the solution on your skin, and that will also help with the "chilly" factor. One thing to remember, make sure once your neck has been sprayed to not look down. Otherwise, you can get a line on your neck from the bronzer.

Once your body has been sprayed, the technician should use an airbrush for the face, hands, feet, and finer details. You will be asked to hold your breath while being sprayed around your nose. Your hands and feet will be sprayed last, if at all, since these tend to get indirectly sprayed from the tanning session. Your hands, wrists, ankles, and feet tend to be lighter even with a UV tan, so these areas will only be lightly misted.

That is it! Getting a custom spray tan will take only about 15-30 minutes of your time, and then you will have a nice color that will develop over the next 8-12 hours. You will be able to get dressed approximately 10 minutes after the session is finished. Allowing the tanning solution to completely dry will reduce smearing and/or blotching of the bronzer.

Your technician should give you information at that point on how to take care of your tan so that your tan can last as long as possible, which is usually about 7-10 days. Remember, the more you spray tan, the longer the tans last, and the less often you will need to have it done.
